Bridges of Putrajaya

Putrajaya consists of eight signature bridges with various sizes, design and can be divided into three categories, namely beam bridges, arch bridges and cable-stayed bridges. Putrajaya bridges were not only to serve as a connection between the various precincts but reflected Putrajaya is a symbol of Malaysia’s dynamism and progress with its fresh and modern outlook. The more stunning ones are Putra Bridge, Seri Wawasan Bridge, Seri Saujana Bridge and Seri Gemilang Bridge where visitors usually make it as a photography spot.

The Seri Saujana Bridge is the signature bridge of Putrajaya as it is the first unique cable-stayed arch bridge in the world which successfully combine two different engineering techniques, arch and cable stay. The night view of Seri Saujana Bridge is much more impressive with mood lighting that enhances the beautiful lines and architecture and it has become a popular photography nightspot. The bridge provides a pedestrian walkway and cycle track for public usage.

One of the main bridges in Putrajaya, Putra Bridge connecting the Government precinct and Mixed Development Precinct on the Core Island. The 435m Putra Bridge with four octagonal towers and its wall of Islamic motifs is inspired by the Islamic architecture of the famous Khaju Bridge in Isfahan, Iran. A stroll along the promenade in the evenings is the things to do for some peaceful and quiet reflection. As night falls, a special magic sets in when the bridge is lighted up.

Located on the western side of the city, the Seri Wawasan Bridge is the main link between Precincts 2 and 8. This magnificent 240m cable-styled bridge is one of the landmarks in Putrajaya and symbolises strength with its modern and futuristic design where its elegant lines draws inspiration from the beauty of a sailboat. At night, the whole look of the bridge is transformed with interesting light play.

Located at the southern gateway, Seri Gemilang Bridge is categorized as a ceremonial bridge which serve as the main entrance to the Core Island along the Boulevard to the Putra Bridge in the north. Four main towers with four smaller entrance towers complete this 240-metre long bridge. The Seri Gemilang is a work of art with its romantic and elegant design against an amazing panorama.

Located at the South-West of Precinct 1, the 37-metre Seri Perdana Bridge connects the Government Precinct to Precincts 8, 9 and 10 across the Putrajaya Lake. One of the first bridges to be completed in Putrajaya, Seri Perdana bridge’s design is inspired by Moorish Islamic architecture with square walls intricately laid with colourful tiles as well as its interesting tile-work in patterned hues of yellow. There are eight pavilions along the bridge to act as viewing decks for pedestrians to pause to take in the magnificent views of the lake.

Located in the northeast of Putrajaya, the 270-metre Seri Bakti Bridge connects Precinct 1 to the residential area of Precinct 16. The bridge has dual two-lane carriageways that provide access for vehicles as well as pedestrians and cyclists. The tile work in Islamic motifs and the stylised streetlamps along the length of the bridge give it a unique identity.

Located at the northeast side of Putrajaya, Seri Bestari Bridge connecting the Core Island to Taman Warisan Pertanian in Precinct 16. This concrete arch system bridge spans 152.6m and has dual two-lane carriageways as well as a cycle track cum pedestrian walkway. Specially designed lamp posts lighted up after dark with mood lighting complete this stunning piece of architecture.

Located in the southeast part of the city, the 210m Seri Setia Bridge consists of seven spans of 30-metre between pier centrelines with a dual three lane carriageways, bridging the commercial district of Precinct 4 to Precinct 19, a high-density residential area with full amenities and facilities. The tapering of the “legs” supporting the bridge, creating the illusion of an arched hallway beneath the bridge, besides the reference to Islamic identity.
