Themed “Be Engaged”, BE @ Penang 2016 is the first in a series of education and skill sharing programming by Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), and will serve as catalyst for our collective effort in developing Penang into a matured and competitive Business Events destination.

Noor Ahmad



Noor is the Regional Director of ICCA Asia Pacific. He has been with ICCA since 2009. Under his leadership ICCA’s membership has grown from strength to strength. Currently there are more than 227 members in the regional in 91 cities. His passion is to help the region grow.


Adrian Cheah


Seasoned Travel Industry Professional backed by years of solid experiences. An all rounder in the Travel Industry with extensive exposure and working experiences in Hotels, Airlines, Online Travel Agency and Destination Management Companies.

Allen Tan

Allen Tan is Managing Director of The Habitat Penang Hill. After several years living and working abroad, he returned to Penang in 2014 to work on the development of The Habitat Penang Hill. The Habitat is a world-class eco-tourism facility located on the fringes of a 130-million year old virgin rainforest on Penang Hill. This rainforest is untouched and precariously exists side by side with urban Penang and its environs. The entire team behind the project, from the owners to the staff on the ground are dedicated to the conservation and promotion of this beautiful natural asset for the benefit of the people of Penang.

Ashwin Gunasekeran

Ashwin Gunasekeran is the Chief Executive Officer of Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), the first State Convention Bureau in Northern Malaysia set up in 2016 to develop and grow its Business Events industry. Prior to joining PCEB, he was the Assistant Vice President of Group Sales & Marketing of Destination Resorts And Hotels. A born and bred Penangite, Ashwin worked for the Penang Tourism Action Council upon obtaining his Master’s degree in International Tourism from IMI University, Switzerland. An industry veteran of over 13 years, he brings to PCEB his accrued experience in tourism and hospitality management, revenue analysis, yield management, business development and business tourism.

Datuk Koe Peng Kang

Datuk Koe Peng Kang is the Executive Vice President of S P SetiaBerhad. He is responsible for all the eco-themed developments under the S P Setia Group’s banner. He holds a Bachelor of Science (civil engineering) from Leeds University and has obtained a Master of Science in 1985 from Birmingham University, UK. He is also a member of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia, and is registered as a Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers in Malaysia.

Dr Hooi Lai Ngoh

Dr Hooi Lai Ngoh is Consultant Respiratory Physician in private practice. She obtained her first degree from the University of Cambridge in 1982 and postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1987 before specialising in Respiratory Medicine. She served as Consultant Chest Physician in Penang Hospital for several years before taking optional retirement from the Ministry of Health in 2002.

She has been active in the Malaysian Medical Association since 1990 and at present is Chairman, MMA Penang Branch. She has been Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Thoracic Society for a number of terms.

Dr Mary Ann

President of the Penang Centre of Education Tourism (PCET), with the objective of making Penang an education hub, by matching talent with industry needs, in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town. Affordable education with international partner institutions is readily available in this Silicon Valley of the East.

Fu Kei Cheong, CMP

KC is a co-founder of Anderes Fourdy, a PCO based in Kuala Lumpur with over 20 years of experience managing Business Events internationally.  KC is the first International Affiliate Member of Australia’s Professional Conference Organisers Association (Australia PCOA). He was the Deputy Chairman of International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) Malaysia. He also sits in the board of Malaysian Business Events Academic Board (BEAC).  He is a Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) registered with Convention Industry Council (CIC) and a Certified Train-the-Trainer for Singapore Association of Convention, Exhibition, Organizers and Suppliers (SACEOS). KC graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia (RMIT University) majoring in Economics & Finance.


Jonathan is CEO of 1919 Global Sdn Bhd, a company that restores and manages heritage properties. The group’s portfolio includes LokeThyeKee Building, LokeThyeKee Residences boutique hotel and Majestic Theatre, which have been respectfully restored with a view towards their Living Heritage. Jonathan believes we are just caretakers of heritage buildings, and that our responsibility is to build upon its rich history. As such, these spaces will not only provide cultural continuum, but also serve as a proven testimony that old spaces can be rejuvenated to provide practical working and living spaces for today and the future.

Karen Yue

Karen Yue is the Group Editor of TTG Asia Media. She started off as a reporter a decade ago, contributing content to the company’s vast stable of titles. She was made Editor, TTG mice in June 2011 and Group Editor in June 2012. In January 2015, Karen launched TTG associations, a magazine that is built for trade associations and advocates the importance of holding meetings. Today, she manages the editorial direction of bothTTGmice and TTGassociations, as well as all special projects. Prior to TTG, Karen was an agency-side marketing specialist whose role included conceptualising and delivering events that supported branding objectives. Her clients ranged from an OS developer to a global aerospace company.

Oh Kin Tat


Total 19 years of working experience in Hospitality Industry. Experience in opening of Resort Hotel and City Hotel. Expertise in Sales & Marketing and MICE Industry. Experience in bidding for International Conferences.

Ooi Chok Yan

Penang-born Ooi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Melbourne’s RMIT University. His career began in top multi-national advertising agencies – BBDO, McCann Erickson, Ogilvy, M&C Saatchi and Hakuhodo. He led Hakuhodo Indonesia’s team to become the Agency of The Year (2012) and win the Gold Lion award in Cannes Outdoor Category (2013). He also won several advertising awards in the local and international arena. Currently, as the CEO of Penang Global Tourism (PGT), he is responsible to generate tourism to Penang by working closely with key tourism players. PGT recently bagged five awards in the major marketing award shows of the region.

Rina Mariani

With over two decades of experience in hospitality industry attaining continuous international exposure from countries within Asia such as Singapore, Bali, Switzerland, Dubai and Malaysia. Her prolong management of Sales & Marketing division specializing in Events department and multiple hotels pre-opening provides her with the extensive knowledge in the demands of International business culture. Being a big believer in the destination where her passion resides, her constant involvement in the fast pace industry allows her to be ahead of the overwhelming development of business environment. Rina Mariani constantly strives for excellence in providing great hospitality to business guest and the destination.

Waikin Wong


Senior Sales Manager (Association) with MyCEB focusing on associations & institutional related international convention bidding & research. As a trusted partner for local/international associations and industry stakeholders, Sales Association team works very closely with partners to develop strategic and tactical bidding direction in securing international conferences for Malaysia.

Yasmin Bathamanathan

Yasmin Bathamanathan is writer, poet and communications strategist based in Penang. She has co-authored three books, the latest of which is an ambitious bilingual poetry project and Malaysia’s first English-Hokkien poetry book titled “Found in Translation”. From 2015 up until its demise, Yasmin had a weekly-column on The Malaysian Insider in which she sought to bring the discourse on gender and politics to the everyday Malaysian. When she is not putting on her writer’s hat, Yasmin spends her time working as a communications specialist and events and campaign manager. She is currently the Marketing Communications Manager at Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB).
